Your friends at Hillcrest Bakery & Deli are thrilled to announce that WE’RE NOT LEAVING!

In fact we’re swimming against the tide and digging in to serve you better.  Hillcrest Bakery is a White Rock tradition–in fact it’s an international business.  Founded by a Dane, Bent Nielson, in 1972, sold to Nick Groot, from Holland, in 1978, and purchased by that English guy, Mike Heywood in 1989, the bakery is now going, well… sort of Canadian.

On April 30, after 22 years, Mike and Vanessa Heywood are retiring.  That’s the bad news.  BUT the good news is that the head baker, David Moyer, who preceded them, is staying.  David, who apprenticed with a German bakery in Kamloops, and his wife, Sheana, who brings 16 years in the retail food industry and a life-long interest in good cooking, are the new owners and will be re-opening the store on May 2nd.

Along with Mike and Vanessa’s children, baker Michael and decorator Robyn; baker Arlan Jack; deli supervisor Sue Ferguson; and many of the same front-end staff, Hillcrest Bakery & Deli will continue to offer all of the good breads, pastries, deli items and treats that have been so popular.  In addition, they will be adding daily deli soup and sandwich specials, tasting samples, quiche, pizzas made with Hillcrest’s own dough and many other tasty treats, including our soon to be famous ‘hot’ chocolate cup cakes.

And of course the best thing about having a ‘from scratch’ bakery in the neighbourhood is we love to get your special orders. Whether you e-mail, phone or stop in, let our friendly staff show you what we can make for you!
