We’ll be featuring our Pizza Pretzel’s today
and I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t get these slippers for Fathers Day.
One of the Grandbaby’s favourite activities with Grandpa is watching Looney Tunes. I have an extensive collection and we’ve spent many a happy afternoon cuddled up on the couch enjoying some of the best cartoons ever made.
She may be a little young to understand that one man did the voices of many of her favourite characters, but she’s already figured out that the versions on TV are different then the cartoons grandpa has. I was cooking dinner last night and had the hockey game on. The grandbaby found the TV remote and put the retro-cartoon channel on. A few minutes later she stomped into the kitchen and announced that some of the cartoon she’d just watched was missing. She was not happy and insisted that I find the proper version for her to watch. I have 7 box-sets…that’s 26 disks and she made it very clear that absolutely nothing else was as important as finding that particular cartoon for her to watch.
I love being a grandpa!
btw…Mel Blanc was born on this day in 1908 and don’t you just love his tombstone…

Speaking of ‘beer’ (it’s Monday morning, so why wouldn’t we be?) I wanted to tell you about beer in bakeries. I started my apprenticeship 32 years ago in a German bakery and the Master Baker (don’t say that to quickly) told me that bakers needed to have a beer after work to get the flour out of their throat so they didn’t develop ‘White lung’…a respiratory condition similar to ‘black lung’ that coal miners get.
Next I worked in a Dutch bakery. One of the breads we made was ‘Beer Bread’ and the owner figured the bakers would be drinking his beer anyway, so we were allowed 1 beer at the end of every shift.
Then I worked for an Englishman. His theory was that back in the day, before commercial yeast was widely available, breweries and bakeries revolved around the production of yeast, so they were usually part of the same business. And just on principle, any decent bakery should have beer in the cooler.
It’s Monday morning and now you know.
Hey, it’s the first long weekend of the summer and we have lots and lots of specials for you today.
We’ll be closed Sunday and Monday, so seriously, today is the day to stock up!
I just wanted to remind you that today is ‘Fish Soup Friday’.
There’s still time to order your Mother’s Day Roast Beef Dinner (we’ll be serving them Saturday & Sunday)
And yes, I am easily amused.
We’ve started selling individual servings of our very own Pizza Sauce to go with our very popular frozen Pizza Dough.
Whatever else you put on it is, of course, up to you.
We won’t judge.
We’ll be serving take-out Roast Beef Dinners with all the trimmings this Saturday & Sunday.
Pre-order yours today!
So the weather-girl says that this should be the first super-duper nice weekend of the year and you were thinking that maybe your weekend plans should include a visit to White Rock because seriously, there really isn’t a nicer place to be on a sunny day.
Here’s an idea…why not have a little impromptu holiday and spend the night at one of our fabulous local B&B’s?
You’ll be glad you did!
Hello Sheana & Robyn,
I just wanted to send a BIG THANK YOU for making our gorgeous cake for my husband’s 40th Birthday party. Everyone said how delicious the Grand Marnier butter cream was and several friends said they will now buy cakes from you and one is even going to drive from downtown just to get your cakes.
The cake was delicious but what I was absolutely WOWED by was the cake design. I requested a casino style cake and I could not believe the amount of work and detail that went into this cake. Your cake had more detail in it that my own wedding cake that cost 3 times as much.
I am forever grateful to you for having such pride in your work, and taking such care to help make our day a special one and keeping in my budget. It was so much better than I imagined. You did such an amazing job, and I appreciate you helping me via phone because of my newborn baby and difficulty of coming in person to the shop.
I was a first time customer, and now I’m a lifetime customer!! (and so are about 30 of our closes friends now)
THANK YOU so much!
Stefanie

Listening to the news as we worked last night, I couldn’t help thinking that this item from yesterday might be nice for a change…
On April 18, 1930, during what should have been a 6:30pm radio news bulletin, a BBC presenter announced “Good evening. Today is Good Friday. There is no news.” It had been apparently judged that nothing newsworthy had happened.
Piano music was then played instead of the current affairs update for a couple of minutes, before normal scheduling resumed.
